DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Things had been pretty miserable for Javonte Williams heading into Week 4 but he surprisingly commanded 19 opportunities and looked far more effective with the ball in his hands on the way to 80 total yards. It still only equated to 9.0 half-PPR points, which matched his season-high. He has, presumably, re-taken the locked-in No. 1 RB role, but it doesn't make him anything more than a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 @ New York Jets
Things have gone from bad to worse with Javonte Williams through three weeks, and we could realistically see him with a snap rate closer to 20% than 50% at any time. On top of a fumble in Week 3, he managed 12 yards on five carries, and that wasn't even out of the ordinary for a back who looks like he has lost all of the burst we (vaguely) remember from his rookie season. Bench Williams everywhere.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
We had been expecting the Broncos to make a move on one of their running backs, and they did eventually cut Samaje Perine, though Javonte Williams still looks like a spoke in an RBBC wheel. We'll see how much of a share he demands after a disappointing eight-carry game in Week 1 and an 11-carry, 17-yard Week 2. Williams should be a fringe RB3/4 this week.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
We had been expecting the Broncos to make a move on one of their running backs, and they did eventually cut Samaje Perine, though Javonte Williams still looks like a spoke in an RBBC wheel. We'll see how much of a share he demands after a disappointing eight-carry game in Week 1. Williams should be a fringe RB3/4 this week.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 @ Seattle Seahawks
We had been expecting the Broncos to make a move on one of their running backs, and they did eventually cut Samaje Perine, though Javonte Williams still looks like a spoke in an RBBC wheel. We'll see how much of a share he demands, but this is a good spot to find out as the Seahawks were very soft against the run last year. Williams should be a fringe RB2/3 this week.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Javonte Williams will be one more year removed from his 2022 ACL tear as he heads into 2024. Back in 2021, Williams was a fantasy stud as a rookie, earning 254 opportunities (rushes + targets) en route to the overall RB17 finish in half-PPR leagues. He is part of a convoluted backfield at the moment, but if he can take over the No. 1 role, he can allow the rest of the depth chart to fight for scraps.

Fantasy Downside
Williams looked like a shell of his former self last season, earning 3.6 YPC and a 46th-ranked 2.71 yards created after contact. His subsequent 9.7 half-PPR points per game landed him as the RB32, boosted by his 55 targets. Granted, he may have rushed back to the field before he was ready, but that didn't stop the team from adding Audric Estime in the draft while retaining both Samaje Perine and Jaleel McLaughlin. He could be a complete stay-away in a loaded backfield depth chart.

2024 Bottom Line
We've been expecting the Broncos to make a move on one of their running backs, but they have stood pat, and Williams looks like a spoke in an RBBC wheel as it stands. What's worse, Williams could very well end up being the lead back, but it will be on a team that is projected to score the third-lowest points across the entirety of the NFL season.

DEN RB Javonte Williams - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Javonte Williams' workhorse usage has tapered down in recent weeks. Williams still led the backfield in Week 16 against the Patriots, but he only got 14 opportunities (11 carries and three targets). Williams can be counted on for double-digit touches every week, but he has serious concerns heading into Week 17 with the Broncos benching Russell Wilson and starting journeyman backup Jarrett Stidham at QB. The Broncos are at risk for total offensive collapse with Stidham under center and the franchise appears to be shifting its focus to the offseason already. Williams gets into the flex discussion simply based on volume, but he has an exceedingly low floor in what projects to be a gross offensive environment rest of season.
