Hey guys, love the site! I had a question that isn't really covered on the site. You cover auction values, and keeper rankings, but no auction keeper/dynasty values. I've tried to extrapolate what I could, but wanted to consult the experts. The lg format is 12 tm, 25 roster, starting 1QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 flex (RB/WR/TE), TE/K/D. It's 6 pt passing TD, half-pt PPR, but full PPR for TE. Auction is $300 budget.
Based on these lg settings, what would you suggest? Do you have a % of budget you'd target for each position? A lot of experts recommend WRs for dynasty, but after reviewing the site, I'm concluding I should target a top 3 RB, a top QB, and TEs, given full PPR. Any specific players you love for dynasty? Thanks guys!!!
We like our friends over at Dynasty League Football for in depth Dynasty advice (https://www.4for4.com/dynasty-fantasy-football-resources), but there are some strategies I like to employ for Dynasty.
I think loading up on WRs in Dynasty is a good strategy, but it's a value thing. The reason for loading up is because they often break out after a couple years in the league, so if you have a couple young guys sitting there, you have a lot of upside. If you have those guys at high dollar amounts though, then you're not taking advantage.
Same goes for rookies. Rookies are awesome in Dynasty, but the reason for that is because they're usually cheap. If you pay them a ton, then you're not really getting value, and a lot of those guys take a couple of years to really come on.
I'd say, spend between 70 and 80% on your starting lineup, with most of that going to RB1/2 and WR1/2. After the top players go off the board, don't overspend on mid-tier players. You should be able to get some value late, especially after everyone blows their cap. You'll be surprised how many upside guys and bench filler you can get late for minimum dollar amounts.
You can get value at QB. Let someone else pay for the top 5-10 guys, unless you can get one for under 5% or so of your cap. You should be able to get two starters and their backups for about 8-9% of your cap, especially if you go with an upside guy for your backup. And aging veterans like Roethlisberger and Eli might go fairly cheap in a dynasty league.
TE... I'd try to get value with a guy like Kyle Rudolph, who tends to go fairly cheap, a steady guy with limited upside you can plug in like Dennis Pitta, and a young upside guy. Hunter Henry I love, but he's probably going to cost a fortune. If you can get him for $5-$10 or so, go for it, but he'll probably cost too much. If you can get Njoku or Howard in the draft, that might be a good way to fill in your TE spot, using low-cost players to fill out your lineup. I wouldn't invest a ton into the position though, as you can find value later in the rankings and the top guys are just so expensive and have injury risks.
Pick a young, stud WR and a young stud RB, and blow a total of 30% on those two to anchor your team, then be patient and don't panic. Let other guys overpay and things will thin out as the auction goes on, especially with 25 players. Go in with a plan if you can, figure out what $ and % amounts you want to spend for each position and update it as you go along to give you and idea of what you'll have left if you make a bid.
Hope that helps!
