IND RB Dan Herron - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Dan "Boom" Herron - Week 13 vs. Washington

In Week 12 Dan Herron got the official start for Indianapolis. After the game Trent Richardson said he was still under the weather, which is why Herron started. Colts beat writer Zak Keefer said Richardson would be starting in Week 13.

The semantics behind who starts in Indy doesn't matter too much. Both guys will likely see playing time. And considering Herron filled in nicely last week, he deserves some touches moving forward. He finished with 12 carries for 65 yards and five receptions for 31 yards. TRich finished with 13-42-1. Richardson's the better bet to get red zone carries, but Herron is more likely to finish with more yards.

Herron draws a difficult matchup this week against Washington. The Redskins have only allowed five rushing touchdowns the backs this season and three of those came from Matt Asiata. Herron is a low RB2 option as we wait and see how he splits touches with Richardson.

IND RB Dan Herron - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Dan "Boom" Herron - Week 12 vs. Jacksonville

Boom Herron is an interesting fantasy option right now. Trent Richardson is handling the majority of the workload in the Colts’ backfield, but with Ahmad Bradshaw out someone has to step up. That someone will be Herron.

Herron was effective in the preseason. He had a 5.1 yards per carry average and was effective as a receiver catching 11 balls for 55 yards and a touchdown. He’s a quick back who can break off big plays. His playing style is closer to Bradshaw’s than Richardson.

Don’t get too excited, however. Herron was the third-string back for a reason. He still has to prove himself before he’s worthy of being a strong flex player. If you’re feeling like taking a risk, he’s not a terrible option, but we’d wait to see how the Colts deploy him before trusting him in our lineups.

Dan Herron - Week 9 vs. New York Giants
Dan "Boom" Herron played as backup to Ahmad Bradshaw last week, but had two total touches for seven yards. Now with Trent Richardson returning, Herron isn't an option worth looking at.

IND RB Dan Herron - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Dan "Boom" Herron has looked like the best Colts running back so far in the preseason. Granted, he's going against second and third team players. He showed burst on a 43-yard gain against New Orleans.

The problem is Herron won't be able to get enough touches to be relevant this season. He has Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw in front of him on the depth chart. His best chance to get in the game is if Bradshaw gets injured (likely) and Richardson plays poorly (also likely). Until that happens, he's not worth a look.
