Perfect Draft Series: Drafting 1st in a 10 Team League

It’s that time of year again.

While it may be hot and humid outside, in the confines of my air conditioned house it’s a cool 72 and it feels more like football weather. But what really feels like NFL games and fantasy drafts are just around the corner is the annual 4for4.com Perfect Draft series of articles.

This is something a lot of the 4for4.com scouts look forward to every year as a way to not only put our skills to the test, but also help ourselves prepare for draft season as well as, hopefully, provide some guidance to our subscribers as far as what they can expect when they draft from various spots.

My first assignment is drafting first in a 10-team standard league. Of course, PC Drafter, which comes free with a 4for4.com subscription, is our tool and the object is to beat the computer GMs (drafting by ADP) in total point as well as starter points.

If you’ve followed me here at 4for4, you know I love PC Drafter. I’ve never had more success in fantasy leagues than when I started using the program several years ago. As the years go on, I’ve added more leagues with the confidence I’d win some money back to pay for my ever-growing league fee totals, and that’s certainly been the case. I will be the first to admit I don’t always go with the selection PC Drafter tells me, but a lot of the time I do, or it’s at least pretty close. But more than telling me who to draft, I love the fact that all of the information I need is right there: schedule, bye weeks and projected points. I use it for all of my drafts, whether live, over email or online. I really do believe the program can help you win.

The starting lineup I chose to write about includes 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR and a flex position, as well as one TE, K, and a D. Let’s dig in and see how it went…

Round 1, Pick 1

Adrian Peterson with your fist pick will likely be the easiest decision you make all day, get it – All Day? Peterson nearly broke the all-time rushing record with Christian Ponder as the QB and not a lot of help in the passing game, especially after WR Percy Harvin went down for the year. Greg Jennings signed in the offseason to provide a WR1 presence and the hope is Ponder can at least be a little better to give opposing defenses the threat of a passing game. While he still doesn’t need it, that will only help Peterson’s production, and we predict him for over 1,800 yards and 13 TDs this season. And because he’s AP, there’s always the possibility he goes well beyond those totals.
