The Training Room: Week 2 Injury Updates
Week 1 is in the books and we've had a number of injuries to big name players and solid contributors of concern to fantasy owners. With a game every Thursday night during the season, fantasy owners need to be even more prepared with information to make the proper decisions each week. Below are some important injuries to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
Tony Romo
Bruised Ribs - Direct trauma to the ribs causes pain and inflammation that helps to protect the injured tissue.
Romo took a shot to the right side of his ribs during the Giants game and had to leave the game. He returned after the half and was able to play through it. X-rays came back negative and the Cowboys are saying they are just bruised, nothing else.
Bottom Line - Romo has shown the ability to play through rib injuries in the past, and this should be no different. The Cowboys will probably give him some time off during the week to let the bruising settle. I'm not so much concerned about the bruising, I'm more concerned about the trauma to the surrounding tissue (cartilage, muscles in-between the ribs) that could hinder his performance moving forward. I don't think he'll have any problem being ready for the Chiefs game, but keep an eye on his status later in the week.
