DraftKings Wild Card Values and Top Plays
I’m a huge proponent of balancing value with expected player usage in tournaments. Ideally, we’d like to roster as many high-value, low-ownership players as possible. The problem is that the most popular players are popular for a reason—they offer value—so sometimes it makes sense to forgo a little value if it means dramatically reduced ownership.
That’s especially true in short slates when we know there’s going to be ridiculously high usage on certain players. That doesn’t mean we should automatically fade those players—Josh Harris is an example of a very obvious value who will be extremely popular but you might not want to fade—but it still makes sense to emphasize player usage more than normal on weekends like the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
With that said, here’s a look at my favorite Wild Card values and tournament plays on DraftKings this weekend.

DraftKings Wild Card Value Plays
High QB: Tony Romo, Dallas vs Detroit, $7500
I believe Romo is the best quarterback play this week. Vegas loves the Cowboys, projecting them at 28 points. There’s a decent chance that the Cowboys will struggle (somewhat) to run the football, especially since Ndamukong Suh won his appeal, so I think Romo will throw the ball at least 35 times. The key here will be if the Lions can get pressure on Romo without blitzing, but I think Dallas will be able to fend off the Detroit rush.
Low QB: Joe Flacco, Baltimore at Pittsburgh, $6700
I’m not overly high on any of the cheap quarterbacks this weekend, but Flacco is probably the safest of them (which is rather scary). The Pittsburgh pass defense is horrible and I’d anticipate Flacco throwing the ball a good amount in the fourth quarter. This game could also get extended if Pittsburgh steers away from the run with LeVeon Bell out.
