Week 6 Essential NFL Practice News & Notes for Friday
Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle, questionable) was limited Friday after taking full reps earlier in the week and is questionable for Week 6. We’re not concerned about Brady popping up on the injury report late in the week. This is probably just the Patriots playing injury report games again. The Pats play early on Sunday, so nervous owners may want to get a Plan B in place.
Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle, probable) took full practice reps all week and is probable for Week 6. No worries here, other than a tough matchup against a surprisingly good Detroit defense.
Raiders QB Derek Carr (ankle, knee, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 6. Carr is expected to start against the Chargers, though the Raiders play late on Sunday. Matt Schaub likely gets the start if Carr can’t go.
Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (ankle, out) has been ruled out for Week 6. Griffin’s return is “a ways off,” per the Washington Post. This is the Kirk Cousins show for now.
Titans QB Jake Locker (right hand, questionable) missed practice all week and is questionable for Week 6. Locker is listed as questionable ,but seems doubtful for Week 6 and is an untrustworthy start even if he does play. Charlie Whitehurst likely gets the start, though if he doesn’t play well the team could give Zach Mettenberger a crack at the job.
Buccaneers QB Josh McCown (right thumb, doubtful) missed practice all week and is doubtful for Week 6. Mike Glennon should continue to start for the Bucs. He has played pretty well.
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (right shoulder, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 6. Palmer has “some decent velocity” on his throws and is at about 80 percent per HC Bruce Arians. At this point, it appears unlikely that he’ll be able to start Week 6, but we should know more this weekend. Drew Stanton is recovering from a concussion, so the Cards might be forced to start Logan Thomas if Palmer or Stanton can't play.
Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back, probable) took full practice reps again Friday and is probable for Week 6. Romo is good to go for a bad matchup against the Seahawks.
Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion, questionable) took limited practice reps all week and is questionable for Week 6. Stanton is “feeling good,” but hasn’t put in a full practice and still hasn’t been cleared to play. We’ll likely know tomorrow if he’ll be able to start (assuming Carson Palmer is out).
