Stacking Week 1
As you may already know, stacking is a highly effective strategy in tournaments. When you “stack” you essentially pair your quarterback with any combination of wide receivers and/or tight ends from the same team. The goal of stacking is to create correlation between multiple lineup slots, which adds risk but also creates a higher ceiling for your lineup, which is the main objective when constructing a tournament roster because you're trying to beat upwards of 80 percent of the field. Of course, this strategy differs from cash games, where you are simply looking to beat one other player or place in the top half so you may choose consistency and value over the added exposure relative to stacks.

In this weekly column, I will be showcasing the Stack Value Reports and highlighting some of the top $/point stacks of the week. In tournaments, you want to maximize your upside at all costs while employing contrarian strategy so that you can leapfrog the field. Advising you to use a highly owned stack is counterproductive in helping you win a tournament. The point of stacking is to differentiate your roster from the pack, as well as increase your ceiling.
Andy Dalton ($6100 DK / $7100 FD) & AJ Green ($7800 DK / $8300 FD) @ OAK
A top-5 fantasy quarterback in 2013, Andy Dalton struggled last season. Aside from it being a contrarian play, there are a few other reasons I love this stack for Week 1. I do not believe Andy Dalton to be elite, but the impact of a healthy AJ Green, Tyler Eifert, and Marvin Jones cannot be understated for this offense. The front seven of Oakland is improved, but this secondary is not one to fear. Green will be eager to prove that he is still a top-5 receiver in the NFL and he has the big play ability you are looking for. The value reports have Dalton as the #3 quarterback on DK and the #6 on FD respectively. This may be the cheapest you get Green all year, take advantage of it.
