When it comes to DFS lineups, looking at matchups and opportunities will be key in constructing a winning lineup. Everyone knows that Calvin Johnson is a top receiver, but that doesn’t necessarily make him a slam dunk starter every week in DFS (see last week in a tough match-up with Arizona). Johnson is typically one of the most expensive wide receivers, but there will always be one with a cheaper price tag in a similar spot for production with a better matchup. Although, it’s worth noting that Johnson's price is coming down.

I can’t believe we’re already headed into Week 6 of the season. Sample sizes are starting to become trends. If a particular cornerback is getting burned, he’s someone to target each week. The same goes for run defense. At this point of the season, if a defense is bad, they aren’t going to magically improve, so start to use the numbers to your advantage.

Each week, I’ll help you exploit specific defensive players and also touch on non-skill offensive players (read: the offensive line) to help you make the right choices on which players to roster and which players to fade in DFS lineups.

Last week we had our hits with the Jacksonville receivers, Brandin Cooks, John Brown and TJ Yeldon. We also had misses with Eddie Lacy (going back to the well this week), and Devonta Freeman (once again, the fade didn’t work). Let’s enjoy the wins and try to increase our hit rate even more in Week 6.

Situations to Exploit in the Passing Game

Joe Flacco finds himself under the lights, in a primetime match-up against the 49ers -- a Super Bowl XLVII re-match. While it’s tough for a team in the Eastern Time zone to travel to the west coast, the 49ers' defense is completely different this time around. Flacco will be throwing in the direction of Jimmie Ward, Tramaine Brock and Kenneth Acker, who have allowed a QB rating of 96.8 on balls thrown their way and 752 total yards between them. According to our aFPA tool, the 49ers are 24th in points allowed to opposing QBs, which is a good situation for DFS players to exploit.
