Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 4 Targets
Ryan Tannehill did not look good doing it, but he ultimately held up his end of the bargain, scoring 25 fantasy points as our optimal streamer last week. In the streaming QB business, we don’t care at all how they do it, so long as they get it done. I prioritize avoiding dreadful weeks when I choose streamers, but Joe Flacco let me down in Week 3. He scored just under 12 fantasy points, despite a favorable matchup against Jacksonville. On the whole, I am still happy with our results through these first three weeks.
On the season, our optimal streaming QB is scoring 25.7 points, good enough for QB5 overall. Our streaming choices have scored 19.8 points on average through three weeks. That would be QB14 – not too bad for picking from the waiver wire fodder. (We only select QBs owned in less than 40% of ESPN public leagues.) Let’s keep the hot streak going.
As before, I focus on QB points per game and the Vegas implied team totals to determine good QB streamers, then I add in their matchup for the week. For opposing defenses, we utilize Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points allowed (aFPA). (aFPA is now updated and based upon 2016 data!)
Week 4 QB Streaming Targets
Brian Hoyer (CHI) vs. DET
Could it be that Jay Cutler is actually reasonably replaceable in Chicago? I’m willing to tentatively say yes. Hoyer scored 22 fantasy points on Sunday night in Week 3, and he was a strong streaming option in Houston last season. This week, Hoyer leads the Bears against the Lions in a game Vegas expects to stay reasonably close. The Lions are giving up 27.4 aFPA, good for the very best matchup in the league for opposing QBs. I’d roll with Hoyer this week, although he’s not the reliable name some would prefer.
Hoyer is available in 98.5% of ESPN public leagues this week, and he is my optimal streaming QB of the week.
