Waiver Wire Watch: Week 10 Fantasy Football Targets

Editor's Note: We're happy to have Brandon Niles on the Waiver Wire Watch this year. He'll work in conjunction with Senior Editor John Paulsen to compile the weekly list of pickups and generate recommended prices for FAAB leagues.

Here is a look at the top waiver wire pickups for Week 10. To be eligible for discussion, the player must be owned in 50% or fewer Yahoo leagues, though we’ll stretch the rules a bit for the RB position, which is usually very thin. We’ll also include suggested bid prices (with a $100 budget) for those leagues that use Free Agent Acquisition Budgets (FAAB). Of course, player value depends on league characteristics and team needs. Players are listed by position in order of importance. For extremely shallow or extremely deep leagues, be sure to review our Rest-of-Season Rankings (updated every Tuesday) to get an idea of how to value players not on this list.

Quarterbacks

Josh McCown, New York Jets ($3)

McCown has quietly been a steady fantasy performer at the ripe old age of 38. He only had 140 yards against the Bills on Thursday night, but he threw a touchdown pass and ran in another. He’s accounted for 16 touchdowns so far this season and faces a vulnerable Bucs defense this week. He should be an excellent streaming option in all league formats.

Next up: @ Bucs, Bye, Panthers

Eli Manning, New York Giants ($1)

Manning and the Giants have been terrible this season, but he has an excellent matchup against the 49ers this week. San Francisco has allowed the second-most fantasy points to the quarterback position this year, and they just gave up two touchdown passes to Drew Stanton. Manning also faces the Chiefs in Week 11, so he could be a solid short-term streaming option for the next couple of weeks.

Next up: @ 49ers, Chiefs, @ Redskins

Jay Cutler, Miami Dolphins ($1)

Cutler has been extremely unreliable all year, but he had a good game Sunday night against the Raiders, tossing three touchdowns and 311 yards in a narrow defeat. He has a tough matchup against the Panthers this week, but then faces the Bucs and the Patriots, two of the worst pass defenses in the league. He has another matchup with the Patriots in Week 14, and then faces the Chiefs in Week 16, so he has some potential as a streamer during the fantasy playoffs.

Next up: @ Panthers, Bucs, @ Patriots

Brock Osweiler, Denver Broncos ($1)

I hate everything associated with all the Broncos passers. However, no one is giving up more points to opposing quarterbacks than the Patriots, so I like Brock as a deep, deep league streaming option for this week only.

Next up: Patriots, Bengals, @ Raiders

I’m not buying: If you feel like you need to think two weeks ahead for streaming options, then Blake Bortles has a great matchup in Week 11 against the Browns, but in most leagues I’m waiting until next week to pick him up. Jacoby Brissett will have a harder time against the Steelers this week than he did on Sunday against the Texans, and then he has a bye in Week 11. I’ll revisit him in Week 12 against the Titans.

Deep Stash Options: I’m not opposed to adding Jimmy Garoppolo as a stash option, but with Kyle Shanahan being cryptic about when/if he’ll play this season, I’m only looking at him as a long-term stash. Teddy Bridgewater has a legitimate chance of being activated this week. If he can win that job back, he’ll have some weapons to work with in Minnesota. Colin Kaepernick quietly accounted for 18 total touchdowns in 12 games last season for a horrible team. If he lands on a team with some talent around him (Houston?), he could quickly become a steady QB option.
