IDP Waiver Wire: Week 3 Pickups & Matchup Plays

Week 2 felt like a Mortal Kombat brutality. If you escaped the week with your IDPs intact, I applaud you. One of the lessons I learned from the week: always have a backup plan, even when things look rosy. The B.J. Goodson news hit, and unfortunately, I couldn't do anything. I also offered my thoughts here. But we learn and prepare for Week 3. Some of the big name injuries from Week 2 include Kwon Alexander, Nick Kwiatkoski (last week's big waiver add), and the aforementioned Goodson. There was also a weird situation where Lawrence Timmons went AWOL due to some personal issues.

If last week's massacres are leaving you depleted, no worries. Below you will find some waiver wire pickups to hopefully help right your ship.

Waiver wire suggestions from Week 2, with the exception of Nick Kwiatkoski, are also relevant this week. Once we get through this week's waiver wire pickups, I'll analyze my Week 3 rankings to see which matchups stand out at each position.

Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups

Defensive Line

Chris Jones, DE, Kansas City Chiefs (32 snaps/44%)

Jones had a monster game and really took advantage of the 32 snaps he received. It's hard not to chase the point after, however. If you're looking for depth or a streamer at the position, Jones is going to get snaps. In Week 1, he was in on nearly 60% of the snaps. Playing ahead of guys like Justin Houston and Dee Ford, Jones is going to get single-looks.

Alex Okafor, DE, New Orleans Saints (59 snaps/78%)

Okafor is coming off a solid game of usage, as he was in on 78% of the snaps against the Patriots. He's being deployed as a blitzer opposite Cameron Jordan, so while he's getting the attention, Okafor is seeing single-teams. Okafor had a solid effort in Week 2, recording 4 solo tackles, including 1 tackle for loss, and 1 QB hit. The Saints defense is bad a whole; however, Okafor is one of the lone bright spots.

Jerry Hughes, DE, Buffalo Bills (46 snaps/67%)

Hughes had the game last week that I was hoping he'd have in Week 1. He took advantage of Matt Kalil all afternoon, producing 2 sacks, 2 QB hits, and 6 tackles. He's a threat to have those blow-up games week in and week out. He's worth picking up if someone dropped him after Week 1, and inserting into your lineup as a DE2.

Adam Gotsis, DE, Denver Broncos (44 snaps/62%)

Gotsis is seeing an uptick in snaps. With volume, we're hoping, comes production. Gotsis had 2 solid solo tackles and notched 4 total tackles, resulting in a 9.1% tackle rate, which is decent production from a lineman. He can wreak havoc around the line scrimmage, recording 7 solo tackles in the first two games of the season. He is worth monitoring in deeper tackle-heavy formats.
