The Training Room: Week 9 Injury Updates
It was relatively quiet on the injury front in Week 8, but there are a few key injuries that need your attention if you have these players rostered. Bye weeks continue to make it important to navigate the waiver wire and be aware of injuries to make sure you can maximize your pickups to fill the gaps.
Player | Position | Team | Injury | Recovery Timetable | Potential Replacement | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tyreek Hill | WR | Chiefs | Strained Groin | Removed from injury report | Sammy Watkins, Chris Conley | Well, this was the best case scenario for Hill owners as groin strains do have a tendency to be multi-week injuries. There is some risk for re-aggravation being that he only sustained the injury last week, but the fact that he's completely removed from the injury report should make you feel confident that he'll play his normal share of snaps. |
Melvin Gordon | RB | Chargers | Strained Hamstring | Full participant | Austin Ekeler | This is a great sign that the Chargers made the right move in sitting Gordon out last week in hopes that he'd fully return to health which seems to be the case based on his practice participation. I would start him as you normally would. |
Alex Collins | RB | Ravens | Sprained Foot | Full participant | Jarvorius Allen, Ty Montgomery | Collins has been dealing with a sore foot this week but was able to practice fully on Friday which means he should be ready to go against the Steelers barring a setback. Collins' role with the Ravens continues to be up in the air especially with Montgomery in the fold so it'll be interesting to see how the backfield carries get split up on Sunday and moving forward. |
Sony Michel | RB | Patriots | Sprained Knee | Questionable for Week 9 | James White, Cordarelle Patterson | Michel was able to practice in limited fashion all week so my expectation is that he will suit up for Sunday night against the Packers. It seems like he hasn't any setbacks with his knee after going through practice this week as well so I wouild insert him into your lineup if he is active. |
Royce Freeman | RB | Broncos | Sprained Ankle | Questionable for Week 9 | Devontae Booker | Freeman has a shot to play in Week 9, but it's hard to trust a guy who if he does play, could be very limited. The Broncos have a Week 10 bye so there's a chance they just rest him until after the bye to ensure there's no setback or re-aggravation. |
Quincy Enunwa | WR | Jets | High Ankle Sprain | Questionable for Week 9 | Jermaine Kearse | Enunwa got in a limited practice on Friday and is questionable for Week 9. Although he's considered questionable, the expectation is that Enunwa will play against the Dolphins. Enunwa returning will be a nice boost for Sam Darnold. |
Ronald Jones | RB | Buccaneers | Strained Hamstring | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 9 | Peyton Barber, Jacquizz Rodgers | Jones left Sunday's game against the Bengals with a hamstring injury and did not return. Entering the game, Peyton Barber was the one the Bucs were concerned about with regards to injury, but now Jones will try and work his way back from a soft tissue injury that could sideline him for at least one game depending on the severity. |
Stefon Diggs | WR | Vikings | Rib Injury | DOUBTFUL FOR WEEK 9 | Laquon Treadwell | Diggs hasn't practiced all week so it's likely that he won't play Sunday. |
Dalvin Cook | RB | Vikings | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 9 | Latavius Murray | For some reason the Vikings are planning on playing Cook on a limited basis which really doesn't make much sense. He's missed this much time, I'm not sure why they don't just sit him until after their bye week which is Week 10. Cook can't really be trusted just based on how limited his touches will be and also the risk that he could potentially re-aggravate the hamstring Sunday. |
Geronimo Allison | WR | Packers | Strained Hamstring/Groin | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 9 | Marquez Valdes-Scantling | Allison injured his groin in Thursday's practice and then showed up doubtful on Friday making it highly unlikely he'd play this week. Allison has been having difficulty staying healthy this year |
Keke Coutee | WR | Texans | Strained Hamstring | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 9 | Bruce Ellington | Coutee won't suit up in Week 9 which means Demaryius Thomas should see a pretty steady roll behind Deandre Hopkins. Once Coutee returns from injury, it'll be interesting to see how things play out in terms of his snaps but Thomas' arrival definitely limits Coutee's upside. |
Chris Thompson | RB | Redskins | Rib Injury | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 9 | Adrian Peterson | Thompson has struggled to stay on the field and a rib injury will return him to the sidelines for Week 9. It's unclear if he is |
Mike Evans | WR | Buccaneers | Leg Injury | Removed from injury report | DeSean Jackson, Chris Godwin | Evans practiced fully on Friday and is good to go against the Panthers in Week 9. Start him as you normally would. |
Ryan Tannehill | QB | Dolphins | Sprained Shoulder | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 9 | Brock Osweiler | Tannehill seems to be slowly making his way back from his shoulder injury, but still looks to be at least a week or two away from returning to the field. |
