Offseason Moves and Draft Needs: NFC East

This is the fifth article in an eight-part series detailing the biggest offseason moves and where teams still need to fill holes via the NFL Draft. This iteration will focus on the NFC East with a slant toward the impact on dynasty leagues.

Dallas Cowboys

What Changed

The Cowboys coaxed Jason Witten out of retirement, but it is a real stretch at this point to consider him fantasy relevant and this is especially true for dynasty. Terrence Williams and Cole Beasley are gone, but Tavon Austin was retained and Randall Cobb was added to the equation for Beasley’s role. Most of what Dallas did this offseason was on the other side of the ball, but this upcoming draft could be more about the offense although the Cowboys first-round pick was dealt in order to acquire Amari Cooper. Hopefully, Travis Frederick—the best center in the NFL—can get back on the field in 2019. It could have a massive positive ripple effect on this entire offense.

The Impact

Speaking of Cooper, there is no question that he is the top receiving option in Dallas and with a full offseason with the team and Dak Prescott, Cooper's impressive production in a Cowboys uniform should continue to rise. Cooper is a WR1 and a huge dynasty asset. Getting a new lease on life for Cobb might help him out, but injuries are too often an issue with him and Cobb lacks the explosion he had early in his career. Don’t get overly excited about him, Austin or Allen Hurns for that matter. While the Cowboys are sure to add receiving help in the draft, Michael Gallup is in an excellent position to be Dallas’ second-leading receiver in 2019. Try to add him if possible and if you already own Gallup, be happy you do.

What To Expect

Dallas really needs to find more pass-catching help in this draft, especially at tight end. This is an ideal landing spot for a talented rookie at that position with the privilege to learn some tricks of the trade from Jason Witten. You want your favorite incoming rookie tight end to land in Dallas. Wide receiver also should be on the Cowboys’ wish list and they could look for any style, shape or size. It should be noted that Dallas has very little behind Ezekiel Elliott right now. In a very deep running back class, the Cowboys should look to address that issue on the third day of the draft where they might land Elliott’s unquestioned handcuff.
