Guillotine 2024 Playoff Contest Primer
Sad your guillotine leagues ended and want more? Well, there’s some fantastic news. Guillotineleagues.com has rolled out some new contests specifically for the postseason. This article will go over their contest offerings for the 2024 NFL playoffs.
The Chopionship
There are four price points available for this contest: $200, $100, $50, and $15.
The $200 version consists of 25 total teams, with first place getting $2,000, second bringing home $800, and third leaving with $400. The $100 entry contest is also 25 teams with payouts of $1,000 for first place, $400 for second, and $200 for third.
For the $50 and $15 Chopionships, there are 100 and 500 players in each, respectively. First place in the $50 gets $2,000, while second place wins $800, and the third-place winner snags $400. In the $15 entry, the winner gets $3,500, the runner-up gets $1,000, and third brings home $500.
General Rules
In the Guillotine Playoff Chopionship you will select a 14-player team (comprised of 8 starters and 6 reserves) from the remaining players in the NFL playoff pool. The goal is to survive each week/round of the playoffs by staying out of the bottom 25% of the lowest-scoring teams. Teams that advance to the next week/round can make changes to their starting lineup utilizing their bench players, but players may not be added/dropped after the first round of competition, meaning THERE IS NO FREE AGENCY.
Contest Duration
The Guillotine Playoff Chopionship lasts for four weeks/rounds:
Round 1 - Wild Card Round
Round 2- Divisional Round
Round 3 - Conference Championships
Round 4 - Super Bowl
At the conclusion of Round 1, the lowest-scoring 25% of teams are chopped, and the remaining teams advance to Round 2. In Round 2, the process repeats, with the lowest-scoring 25% of teams again being eliminated.
This cycle continues in the Conference Championships (Round 3), where the top 25% of the league will advance to the finals in the Super Bowl (Round 4).
This table outlines how many teams will be remaining (in each round) based on contest size:
Start of Round 1 | Start of Round 2 | Start of Round 3 | Start of Round 4 |
---|---|---|---|
25 teams | 19 teams remain | 13 teams remain | 7 teams remain |
100 teams | 75 teams remain | 50 teams remain | 25 teams remain |
500 teams | 375 teams remain | 250 teams remain | 125 teams remain |
Roster Requirements
All rosters will consist of 14 players: eight starters and six reserves.
There is a maximum of three players permitted from each NFL team. Starting lineups must consist of the following:
1 Quarterback
2 Running Backs
2 Wide Receivers
1 Tight End
2 FLEX (RB/WR/TE)
NOTE: Players in your starting lineup can be moved from a mandatory positional spot (RB, WR, or TE) to a FLEX spot (and back) after their game(s) have kicked off, but they cannot be moved to your bench in favor of another player (whose game has not started yet).
The Guilloteenie
There are four price points available for this contest: $250, $100, $50, and $30, with all contests featuring five teams.
The winner of the $250 contest takes home $800, while the second-place team gets $400, and the person in third gets $50. In the $100 contest, first place gets $300, second wins $75, and third snags $50. The victorious one in the $50 contest gets $130, the second takes home their entry fee of $50 and third place gets $25. The prize structure for the $30 contest is $100 for first, $15 for second place, and third place gets $10.
General Rules
A Playoff Guilloteenie begins with up to five teams, and for each playoff round, league results are determined by the cumulative points from each team’s starting lineup. After each round, the team that scored the fewest points that round is chopped from the competition.
When a team is eliminated, its entire roster of players becomes free agents, eligible to be acquired by the rest of the league. There are no head-to-head matchups, which means there are also no win/loss records.
The last elimination round will be the Conference Championships, where the lowest-scoring team will be chopped, leaving the final two teams to compete for the top prize in the Super Bowl.
Contest Duration
All leagues consist of a maximum of five teams, and the gameplay lasts for up to all four rounds of the NFL playoffs:
Round 1 - Wild Card Round (lowest scoring team chopped)
Round 2- Divisional Round (lowest scoring team chopped)
Round 3 - Conference Championships (lowest scoring team chopped)
Round 4 - Super Bowl (final two teams remain)
Roster Requirements
All rosters will feature eight starters and NO BENCH. Starting lineups must consist of the following:
1 Quarterback (limit 1 drafted per team)
2 Running Backs
2 Wide Receivers
1 Tight End
2 FLEX (RB/WR/TE)
Good luck in those guillotine streets, everyone!
