The Training Room: Week 16 Injury Updates
It's hard to believe that we are so close to the finish line, but here we are in championship week! For the majority of you who are competing for the trophy this week, having a really good understanding of who is available versus who is out will be crucial for your ability to get a head start on your competition. Congrats to those who have gotten to this point now let us help you claim your fantasy championship! **Updated 12/21/19
Dalvin Cook, RB Vikings
Injury: Re-Aggravated Shoulder Sprain
Timetable For Return: Ruled OUT for Week 16
Potential Replacement: Mike Boone, Alexander Mattison (inactive W15)
Comments: Even in a huge game against the Packers on Monday, the Vikings aren't going to potentially risk Cook's long term health with the playoffs right around the corner. With Alexander Mattison questionable as well, the Vikings might need to rely more on the passing game to beat the Packers.
J.D. McKissic, RB Lions
Injury: Stinger
Timetable For Return: Not listed on injury report
Potential Replacement: Ty Johnson
Comments: McKissic was not on the injury report after Wednesday's practice which is an indication that the stinger he sustained has cleared up already. He's still not a viable option for the fantasy championship round.
On The Mend
D.J. Chark, WR Jaguars
Injury: Sprained Ankle
Timetable For Return: Questionable for Week 16
Potential Replacement: Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley
Comments: Chark was limited on Friday and Coach Marrone states that he is expecting Chark to play against the Falcons. Barring any last minute setbacks, I'd use Chark as you normally would.
Greg Olsen, TE Panthers
Injury: Concussion
Timetable For Return: Cleared concussion protocol
Potential Replacement: Ian Thomas
Comments: Olsen is back to full practice and will be available this weekend. It is really hard to predict what kind of target volume he'll get with Will Grier under center this weekend and should not be your first option when considering a TE for championship week.
Damien Williams, RB Chiefs
Injury: Rib Injury
Timetable For Return: Not on injury report
Potential Replacement: LeSean McCoy, Darwin Thompson
Comments: Williams practiced in full on Friday and looks to be ready to return to the field against the Bears. The Chiefs backfield might be one to avoid as there are too many mouths to feed and it will be hard to figure out the workload distribution. If you have better options to consider then I would advise to go that route.
Daniel Jones, QB Giants
Injury: High Ankle Sprain
Timetable For Return: Expected to start Week 16
Potential Replacement: Eli Manning
Comments: Jones will be back under center for the Giants in Week 16 against the Redskins. Even though he's got a favorable matchup against the Redskins, it is hard to feel confident in Jones' ability to deliver in the fantasy championship game.
Jordan Howard, RB Eagles
Injury: Sprained AC Joint
Timetable For Return: Questionable for Week 16
Potential Replacement: Miles Sanders
Comments: Howard continues to be limited by his shoulder, so even if he somehow is active, it will be hard to truly know how much the Eagles might use him. The Eagles have a huge game against the Cowboys this upcoming week so the Eagles will need all hands on deck if Howard is finally able to return to the field this week.
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR Steelers
Injury: Sprained Knee
Timetable For Return: Expected to play Week 16
Potential Replacement: James Washington, Diontae Johnson
Comments: JuJu practiced in full towards the end of this past week which puts him on track to play against the Jets. The Steelers will welcome him back with open arms as another downfield threat to help them stay in the playoff hunt.
