The Training Room: Week 17 Injury Updates
For those of you whose fantasy championships ended after Week 16, congrats on hopefully taking home the crown! For those who like to live a little more dangerously, your fantasy championship is here. Things could get even more interesting as there were a number of injuries that happened in Week 16 that will directly impact how you manage your roster heading into the final week of your fantasy season. Let's get right into it so you can check out our waiver watch article to determine what you might want to do if you have any of the players mentioned below.
Mark Ingram, RB Ravens
Injury: Strained Calf
Timetable For Recovery: 3-4 Weeks, Ruled OUT for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Gus Edwards
Comments: Ingram went down in non-contact fashion, which is never good to see a player injured like that on their own. Calf strains are normally multi-week injuries and are high risk for re-aggravation especially given the position the Ingram plays (see T.Y. Hilton this year).
Chris Carson, RB Seahawks
Injury: Hip injury
Timetable For Recovery: Out For Season
Potential Replacement: Travis Homer
Comments: Carson left Sunday's game against the Cardinals in the first half and did not return. Coach Carroll has already stated that Carson is out for the season which is a huge blow to the Seahawks and their potential ability to go deep into the playoffs. The fact that they ruled Carson out so quickly for the rest of the season sounds like the hip injury is very serious, so instead of speculating as to what the injury could be, we'll wait to we get official word as to what exactly it is before giving a timetable for his recovery.
Zach Ertz, TE Eagles
Injury: Bruised Ribs
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Dallas Goedert
Comments: Ertz took a huge hit in the first quarter of Sunday's win against the Cowboys as Carson Wentz threw a ball high which exposed Ertz to the big hit. Rib injuries are usually pain tolerance issues and it is clear that Ertz will sit in hopes not to aggravate this injury even in a big Week 17 game. Fire up Goedert as a solid option in the Eagle's offense that is hurting for playmakers.
Kyler Murray, QB Cardinals
Injury: Strained Hamstring
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Brett Hundley
Comments: Murray strained his hamstring in the third quarter of Sunday's win against the Seahawks and did not return. Murray reports feeling a tweak in his hamstring just as he was being pushed out of bounds. There is no reason to have Murray play next week in a meaningless game against the Rams, so if you have him, plan to procure other options available to you.
D.J. Moore, WR Panthers
Injury: Concussion
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Curtis Samuel
Comments: Moore had only one catch prior to leaving Sunday's game against the Colts due to a concussion. The Panthers will likely not rush Moore back if any of his symptoms linger throughout the week so keep an eye on his status heading into Week 17.
Will Fuller, WR Texans
Injury: Strained Groin
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Kenny Stills
Comments: Here we go again. Fuller left Saturday's game against the Buccaneers with a groin injury and did not return. Soft tissue injuries have hampered Fuller all season and with the Texans wrapping up the AFC South already, there is no reason to push Fuller into play Week 17 against the Titans.
C.J. Prosise, RB Seahawks
Injury: Broken Arm
Timetable For Recovery: Out For Season
Potential Replacement: Travis Homer
Comments: Prosise suffered a broken arm in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals and is out for the season. Prosise continues to struggle with his health and has not shown to be a trustworthy option from a fantasy standpoint due to the multitude of injuries he constantly faces each year.
On The Mend
Jameis Winston, QB Buccaneers
Injury: Fractured Thumb
Timetable For Recovery: Expected to play Week 17
Potential Replacement: Blaine Gabbert
Comments: Winston practiced in full on Thursday and Friday so there is no reason that Winston should miss this game unless he has a last minute setback. He'll finish out the season against an improving Falcons defense over the past few weeks but it'll be hard to sit him just based on how much the Bucs have been throwing as of late.
Robby Anderson, WR Jets
Injury: Strained Calf
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 17
Potential Replacement: Jamison Crowder
Comments: Anderson has practiced in limited fashion throughout the week and will be a game time call heading into the final week against the Bills. Anderson will likely be limited if he does end up suiting up but like we've stated in the past, calf injuries have a high risk of re-aggravation so I would look for another option if you have one.
Derrick Henry, RB Titans
Injury: Strained Hamstring
Timetable For Recovery: Expected to play Week 17
Potential Replacement: Dion Lewis
Comments: Henry wasn't on the final injury report and practiced in full all week so it looks like the week off did him some good. Hamstring injuries can be tricky to manage but with the Titans facing a must win game against the Texans, they will likely feed Henry as much as he's able to handle to try and secure the W.
Josh Jacobs, RB Raiders
Injury: Fractured Shoulder
Timetable For Recovery: DOUBTFUL for Week 17
Potential Replacement: DeAndre Washington, Jalen Richard
Comments: Jacobs will miss the regular season finale due to the shoulder that has limited him basically all season. The Raiders need a lot of help in order for them to get in the playoffs, but they'll do so with Washington taking on feature back duties and Richard being used as the change of pace back.
