IDP Waiver Wire: Week 8 Targets
As we move firmly into the second half of the fantasy season the waiver wire often becomes a tough place to find value, meaning matchups begin to become more important, so keep that in mind when scanning the available players in your league.
Linebackers
Rashaan Evans - Tennessee Titans
A much-hyped rookie, Evans was also a highly touted IDP asset in his rookie season but struggled to hold down much more than a role in the Titans base packages, which restricted him to playing only 494 snaps (47%). That has not been the case in 2019 though, as he's being used as an every-down ‘backer. Evans has already played 410 snaps (87%) through the first seven weeks and his 55 total tackles surpass his rookie season tally of 53. Three double-digit tackle returns in the last four games further highlight his progression and although it’s a year later than expected, dynasty league owners will be pleased to see he isn’t the reach we thought last December.
Kiko Alonso - New Orleans Saints
A former second-round pick, Alonso was traded to the Saints before the start of the season, which marks his fourth team in seven years after a three-year spell with the Dolphins. Despite being shipped around the league in varying deals, Alonso has been a productive player when on the field, at least from a fantasy perspective, racking up over 100 total tackles in four seasons.
Week 7 marked Alonso’s first significant spell of playing time for the Saints, playing over 60% of snaps, having only seen the field for more than 20% of snaps in one other game this year. While his four total tackles were a little underwhelming, Alonso’s playing time is trending firmly in the right direction and all evidence points to Alonso being an LB2 scorer when in a three-down role, which could well be on the cards.
