There are many good reasons to look at contracts in fantasy football. For example, one of my favorite things to do when evaluating the future opportunity for young players is to look at the contracts of the starters in front of them. For example, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown are only signed through this season, with several young players behind them in Tyler Johnson, Scott Miller and rookie Jaelon Darden all possessing potential for increased roles in 2022.

Additionally, for those drafting early, it’s important to see who might be a cap-casualty heading into the season. I’m looking straight at Cole Kmet and the Bears’ seven million reasons to cut Jimmy Graham before the season.
Most importantly, checking on contract status can clue fantasy owners into which players may be extra motivated while gunning for a new deal. There’s a strong list this season of players who may be looking to next offseason, highlighted by a deep group of pass-catchers. Teams looking for tight end or wide receiver help should have plenty of options to choose from heading into 2022 free agency.
