After nine days of silence, the Bengals and Alvin Keels talked Wednesday in an effort to get first-round pick Andre Smith into camp, even if it is for just one practice.
The team leaves for New Orleans today and will have its last practice at Georgetown College on Monday. Smith has missed 13 days and 15 practices.
Keels said on his Twitter page: “Sent over what I thought was a very good and fair proposal today to the Bengals! Let’s hope it does the trick. If not back to square one!”
It is believed that Keels wants a five year, $40 million deal for the No. 6 pick in the draft, which would be slightly more than the $38.25 million deal that Darrius Heyward-bey signed with the Raiders as the No. 7 pick on July 31.
