Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said after Sunday's loss QB Baker Mayfield will remain the starting quarterback as long as he remains healthy.
“Baker will start as long as he’s healthy, and I think he will be," Stefanski said. Mayfield left Sunday's game after getting banged up during Sunday's 38-7 loss to the Steelers. Mayfield also had a day to forget, going 10/18 for 119 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was replaced by Case Keenum.
“I just didn’t want to see him get hit one more time, and I put that on myself,” Stefanski said. “Went into this game knowing we had to keep him clean, and we did not do a good enough job, so that that starts with me obviously. He’s a very, very tough player and I know he wants to fight, but it’s a long season, we have a game next week and I did not feel like it was the right thing to put him back out there.”
The Browns hit the road in Week 7 to take on the 1-4-1 Bengals, before a Week 8 meeting with the Raiders and then have their bye in Week 9.
