When Chargers running back Ryan Mathews quickly returned to the sideline after leaving last week's game, it looked like he had avoided a significant injury. But Mathews never returned to the game, and now sounds shaky at best to play against Seattle in Week Three.
"They're going to go on how I feel," Mathews told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I feel good . . . I don't think it was that bad. They're going to take precautionary measures to make sure my career isn't going to be upset over an ankle . . . Something that could be a week, if I don't treat it right could be six weeks."
Mathews was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which often takes weeks to recover from. If Mathews is out against Seattle on Sunday, Mike Tolbert and Darren Sproles figure to split the workload.
If you're a Mathews owner and you haven't picked up Mike Tolbert yet, it's important you do so quickly. Tolbert could be a nice handcuff for Mathews and there's a chance now that Mathews doesn't suit up this week. In standard league, Tolbert could be in store for a nice week. Sproles makes a good PPR league fill in as well.
