Hoyer will backup Brissett after the retirement of Andrew Luck. The Colts will be his 8th team over 11 seasons.

Colts QB Jacoby Brissett will not play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Bears, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic.

The Colts are sitting majority of their starters and with the uncertainty of Andrew Luck, Brissett is currently the starter behind center. It still remains to be seen if Luck will be available for Week 1, but the Colts aren’t taking any chances with Brissett. Perhaps the injury scare to Cam Newton factored in to the decision but the Colts also really like what they have in Brissett and can’t afford him getting hurt. All signs are starting to point toward Brissett starting the opener against the Chargers.

Keefer went on to tweet that the issue remains a matter of "full speed movement vs. pain threshold" with his ankle. The Colts, ideally, will want to know his status for Week 1 next Monday. That'll be 13 days shy of the season opener, the tweet went on to say.

Fourth-year wide receiver Chester Rogers was, arguably, the best player on the field during Tuesday’s practice open to reporters.

Whether it was his diving sideline catch or his leaping, fingertip grab later in the workout, Rogers’ presence was felt throughout. Rogers, per usual, showed his ability in space, where he is often at his best because of his ability to make defenders miss. With veteran T.Y. Hilton and rookie Parris Campbell sidelined, Rogers got extensive work with the first-team offense and quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He took full advantage.

Indy's WR room is certainly a crowded one with T.Y. Hilton, Deon Cain's impending return from injury and the additions of Devin Funchess and Parris Campbell this offseason. Rogers has shown flashes of production in his three-year tenure with the Colts but averaged just 7.1 PPR points per contest last season. He needs to show more consistency to be fantasy relevant, but Indy's offense has the ability to support a deep receiving corps.

If Chris Ballard wants to pick up another draft pick in April, the Colts general manager has one clear trade chip available on his roster.

Few commodities in the NFL are as valuable as a potential starting quarterback, and even though Brissett spent this season backing up Andrew Luck, his 2017 turn as the starter while Luck dealt with his injured shoulder hasn’t been forgotten around the league.

The story feels Brissett's value is at an all-time high. Ballard was quoted in the story as saying, "It would take somebody doing something that would blow me away," as far as trading Brissett. Ballard also said he wouldn't trade Brissett just anywhere, and it would need to be the right situation for him.

The Indianapolis Colts anticipate quarterback Jacoby Brissett being available for Sunday’s meeting with the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Although Brissett remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, he went through a Monday morning practice without incident.

HC Chuck Pagano said he expects Brissett to play and he "should be OK" the story went on to say.

After being cleared through the NFL's concussion protocol late in the third quarter of a 20-17 loss to Pittsburgh, Jacoby Brissett didn't take postgame questions because he was still being evaluated for a head injury by team doctors.

"Scott Tolzien started warming up as soon as Jacoby came out, because we could have lost him for the entire game," coach Chuck Pagano said, explaining one of Sunday's odder scenes. "So he went through the protocol and passed it and got back out there in time to run that series."

Team officials said Brissett was initially evaluated for a concussion on the sideline twice — once with team doctors and once by the unaffiliated neurological consultant. He passed both times. Then, after the game, he developed concussion-like symptoms again and returned to the protocol.
