The Broncos appear to be closing in on signing veteran running back Willis McGahee. ESPN is reporting McGahee has reached a three-year, $7.5 million agreement with the Broncos, but the team will not confirm an agreement.
McGahee has been the Broncos' No. 1 choice in free agency. He played for Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville when both were in Buffalo from 2004 to 2007.
He is expected to complement running back Knowshon Moreno, not replace him as the starter.
All things considered, Moreno's value has made it through free agency pretty well. McGahee will rotate in, but Moreno will get early down work as well as the vast majority of the third-down snaps since he is such a good receiver. McGahee may vulture some goal line carries, however.
