Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield revived such talk by throwing a career-high four interceptions against the Packers. It seems even more likely — if it already wasn’t — that General Manager Andrew Berry will bring in someone to challenge Mayfield next season. Considering the state of the roster, Berry can do much better than Mitchell Trubisky, currently the backup in Buffalo, with no slight intended towards the former Mentor High School star.
A lot of the story was about Cleveland luring Aaron Rodgers to town next year, but bringing in competition for Mayfield shouldn't go unnoticed for his owners, perhaps especially in dynasty leagues. The story mentioned Mayfield's four-INT performance only gave the team more minuses as far as offering an extension goes. While it seems like the writer has higher hopes than Trubisky, the story also mentioned the team could have interest in Derek Carr and could be in the mix to trade for Russell Wilson. While WR may not be at the top of the list, Cleveland does have some positives in terms of luring a QB, including the defense, offensive line and RB position.
