Bucs coach backs off RB Blount comments

He has only six carries for 27 yards and one touchdown, but rookie RB LeGarrett Blount's physical running style drew some lofty, albeit unrealistic, comparisons.

"That run the other day was shades of Mike Alstott," Morris said, referring to the retired fullback who is the franchise's all-time touchdowns leader. "That was nice to see."

On his weekly radio show Monday, Morris declared Blount as having earned the role of short-yardage and goal-line back. But the coach seemed to backpedal a bit Wednesday.

"He's not declared," Morris said. "But he's definitely going to have a role (there) if he's not the back. He still has to go out there and compete with Earnest a little bit, but I'm sure Earnest Graham will gladly run up the sideline and tap him in if he keeps giving us runs like that."

Fantasy Impact:

Seems like Morris is pretty excited about Blount and his potential. So while he backed off a bit, Blount still looks to be in line to steal some work from Caddy, especially in deep. It remains to be seen what the workload split will look like but Blount is a popular pickup these days as Caddy seems to be down-trending.
