Calvin Johnson will not play Saturday

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said today that wide receiver Calvin Johnson will not play in Saturday’s exhibition at Cleveland. Johnson has been sidelined with a sprained thumb.

Schwartz said Johnson should take off his splint soon, however. The goal is for him to play in the third exhibition Aug. 29 against Indianapolis.

Per Bears head coach Matt Eberflus: Ryan Bates remains in the concussion protocol. Elijah Hicks (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (groin) won't practice.

Teven Jenkins will be limited.

This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on, as Johnson would have a huge workload if Swift were to miss Week 12. Homer has three rush attempts and zero targets on the year.
