It sounds like Cedric Benson is about to officially be named the Packers' starting running back for this season.
Benson's biggest competition for that spot during Green Bay's recent training camp practices has been second-year running back Alex Green. However, with Green still somewhat limited 10 months after tearing his ACL, Benson will likely get the nod as the starter.
"Cedric is leading off," Green told FOXSportsWisconsin.com when asked if he or Benson would be starting when the Packers begin the regular season on Sept. 9.
Benson look great against his old team last week and seems primed for solid season as the Packers' top running back. We have moved him up to RB22 in standard formats and RB25 in PPR formats. Look for him in the 5th or 6th round. Alex Green and perhaps James Starks will be rotated in, but it appears that this is Benson's show. Green Bay has run a RBBC the last couple of years, but that was due to a lack of talent on the roster. Ryan Grant got 282 carries in 2009 and 312 carries in 2008. HC Mike McCarthy is not afraid to hand the keys to an RB if they are productive.
