Dallas bear writer Brandon George answered a question about TE Jason Witten:
Question - How much longer can Jason Witten be an every-down tight end? Do you think Gavin Escobar the long-term answer?
Brandon George: Hard to say if Escobar is the long-term answer based on his rookie season. He only had 9 catches last year, so he has a lot to still prove. Witten definitely has a few more strong years in him. He doesn't appear to be declining yet. I do think Witten's numbers will be down this season because they go with more screen passes and use Escobar more.
It's an interesting observation, albeit not a great one for owners. It's something to take note of early in the season if this becomes a trend. Owners may be able to use Witten in a deal to upgrade at the position, though there is the thinking that a much improved offensive line should allow Witten to run more pass routes, which would result in an improvement in his numbers.
