Cribbs taken to hospital for possible concussion

The sight of Josh Cribbs immobilized and carted off on a stretcher after the last play of Monday's loss to the Ravens sent shock waves through his teammates.

The injury came as the Browns tried a hook-and-ladder with three seconds remaining in which he caught a short pass and then lateraled to Robert Royal.

Cribbs -- who was being evaluated for a concussion according to a league source -- was drilled after the play by defensive end Dwan Edwards, who knocked him under the chin and to the ground.

Afterwards, he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His wife, Maria, looked on as the ambulance drove away. By then, she already knew what reporters were about to be told by coach Eric Mangini: that Cribbs had feeling in all parts of his body' and that he was put on the board as a precautionary measure.

Teammates said Cribbs, who was moving his legs on the field and gave the thumbs-up sign, was his usual self even in the midst of the scare.

"He was the same old Josh, laughing and carrying on," said receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. "He was moving his legs and he looked to be fine. Hopefully everything turns out for the best for him."
