Giants RB Brandon Jacobs is expected to make his first start in nearly two years on Thursday night. And it may not be his last.
That all depends on what former starter David Wilson hears on Monday when he gets a second opinion on his injured neck. As it is, Wilson is out of the Giants’ Thursday night game in Chicago with what one NFL source said is a disc-related injury. Another source familiar with the injury said the Giants believe Wilson will likely be out several weeks.
But nothing will be certain until Wilson meets with Dr. Robert Watkins, a spinal surgeon in Los Angeles. As one source said “With treatment, this thing could settle down within a couple of weeks.”
It's a sad state of affairs for the Giants, who turn to Jacobs, a player who often couldn't crack the gameday roster of the 49ers last season. Wilson owners should hold on for another week and see if his prognosis improves after his second opinion early next week. Consider Jacobs a RB4-type for the time being. DaRel Scott will likely to have more value in PPR formats.
