The Miami Dolphins have hired Adam Gase as their next head coach.
Gase, the former offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, becomes Miami's fourth consecutive hire with no prior head-coaching experience, joining former Dolphins coaches Joe Philbin, Tony Sparano and Cam Cameron. He is considered a "quarterback guru," a highly coveted trait for Miami. He worked with quarterback Jay Cutler this season and Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow in Denver in previous seasons.
Prior to joining the Bears, Gase ran the Broncos' offense for two years and the team finished first in scoring in 2013 and second in 2014. Chicago's offense actually fared pretty well this season with all the injuries they suffered at receiver and tight end. Jay Cutler posted the second-highest YPA (7.58) of his career and took care of the ball about as well as he ever has. The hire is an upgrade for Tannehill.
