Darren Sproles (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's game versus the Giants.
This isn't a big surprise, but does have an impact on Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement, who will battle it out for touches in Jay Ajayi's absence. Our own Jeff Miller had the following to say on the situation in this week's Waiver Wire Watch: "Before his quad injury, Clement was the clear backup to the IR-bound Jay Ajayi (ACL). A funny thing happened when he went down, though: Wendell Smallwood looked good. Better than Clement, even, at least in 2018. Considering Clement's Super Bowl breakout and the 2018 projection that earned him in many circles, the previously disappointing Smallwood's higher rate of success no doubt comes as a surprise. The question is whether or not Smallwood's recent success has allowed him to leapfrog Clement on the team's depth chart, since Clement was clearly ahead of Smallwood coming into the season. In the Eagles' Week 3 game where Clement was healthy and Ajayi was out, Smallwood was out-snapped 45 to 29 and out-touched 19 to 13 by Clement. Despite that, he outscored his backfield mate by 7.6 points and out-gained him 91 yards to 75. Doug Pederson announced that Clement is 100% ready for Week 6, so we should have a better idea of this backfield split on Thursday night. For now, we recommend Clement as the priority add, but if Smallwood is significantly cheaper, he's a good addition as well."
