Galloway's absence could mean his departure is near

While one receiver, Wes Welker, made his triumphant return against Baltimore, another was conspicuously absent: Joey Galloway.

The veteran receiver was a healthy scratch – possibly for the first time in his career – as New England stayed with just four pure receivers in Welker, Randy Moss, Julian Edelman and Sam Aiken.

Galloway has struggled mightily this season, and while all parties have said the right things, saying his timing with Brady is a work in progress and something they've worked hard on, the fact remains that the 37-year old wideout was not some training-camp signing. He has been with Brady since March, and the two had the entire offseason as well as training camp to work together and for Galloway to learn the offense, something he still admitted to be struggling with as recently as 10 days ago.

Galloway was not much of a factor in the first three games of the season; he has seven catches for 67 yards, but has been targeted by Brady more than 20 times.

When Bill Belichick was asked about Galloway being inactive, he gave no explanation.
