There’s a “breaking news item’’ out on the internet saying Brian Griese could be let go by the end of the week. Really? Anyone who follows the Bucs at all has known since before the draft that Griese was not going to be part of this team this year and that he’d be let go at some point during the offseason. Why? Because Brian Griese was Jon Gruden’s QB. Case closed. Griese may still be a serviceable NFL QB, but he’s of little service to a Bucs team looking for upside at the QB position. The only reason the Bucs didn’t let Griese go when they let Derrick Brooks, Joey Galloway, Warrick Dunn, Ike Hilliard and Cato June go was because the Bucs held out a glimmer of hope of trying to get something in return for him. They’re still holding out hope. Despite being turned down on trade offers that went out before, during and after the draft, the Bucs are still hoping to get a little something for Griese.
