Giants TE Evan Engram (knee, out) missed practice all week and is out for Week 5. Rhett Ellison posted 3-39-1 on three targets in Week 3, the game where Engram was injured. Ellison added 3-29 on five targets last week against the Saints. The production isn’t great, but he’s involved, and this week he faces the Panthers, who are No. 32 in TE aFPA after giving up 9-105-1 to Bengals tight ends and 5-59-1 to Austin Hooper. Carolina signed safety Eric Reid, who should improve their tight end coverage.

Falcons TE Austin Hooper stayed close to QB Matt Ryan in offseason

As explained by Peter King of NBC’s Football Morning in America, TE Austin Hooper remained in Atlanta throughout the offseason, working out consistently with quarterback Matt Ryan.

“Hooper’s been like a dog this offseason — over and over, he’d catch everything Matt threw and bring it back,” coach Dan Quinn told King, who explains that, whenever Ryan was looking for a throwing partner this offseason, Hooper answered the call.

Fantasy Impact:

The team is possibly looking for more out of the TE position, so any offseason chemistry between Hooper and Ryan can only help to boost Hooper's 49-526-3 numbers from last season.

Falcons TE Austin Hooper building on Super Bowl performance

You knew Matt Ryan had faith in Austin Hooper when the league MVP targeted the rookie tight end on consecutive plays in the Super Bowl, the second resulting in a 19-yard touchdown.

The chemistry between the two Atlanta Falcons continued through organized team activities and minicamp, as Ryan put the Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots behind him and Hooper continued his maturation going into his second season in the offense.

Although Hooper's play stood out this offseason, he was far from content. So the Northern California native recently joined Ryan for three days of workouts in Southern California, a routine Ryan started last season while connecting with the experts at 3DQB training.

"That's what L.A. was about ... just another opportunity for me to work with the MVP and just understand exactly where he wants me to be," Hooper said, "and work routes that we both feel we can progress on."

Fantasy Impact:

Hooper had a quiet rookie season, but that's not unusual for a young tight end. He plays in a high-octane offense with one of the better quarterbacks in the league, so there is some upside here.

Falcons TE Austin Hooper (knee) took full practice reps all week. Hooper is back. He’s a decent low-cost dart throw, though he hasn’t had a good fantasy line since Week 9, when he posted 3-46-1 on six targets. He only saw 10 targets over his next five games before being sidelined.
