Jacksonville rookie receiver Jarett Dillard sustained a broken ankle Sunday in the Jaguars' 24-22 win over the New York Jets and will be out for the season, according to coach Jack Del Rio.
“It was a break,” Del Rio said. “I believe it was the ankle. I don’t know specifics, but it was a break. We’ll lose him for the year.”
Dillard suffered the injury on a 7-yard catch near the sideline in the second quarter. Dillard was tackled on the play by cornerback Donald Strickland, and immediately taken to the locker room for x-rays.
Prior to his injury, Dillard was being used as the No. 3 receiver. In fact, it appeared he’d moved past fellow rookie Mike Thomas on the depth chart.
