HC Adam Gase said towards the end of camp that he needed to do a better job getting LeVeon Bell the ball “in space.” While that hasn’t worked out too well in the running game, lining him up as a wideout provided some highlights late this summer. Frank Gore is as consistent as they come as a backup, and La'Mical Perine turned some heads before suffering an ugly, but not serious ankle injury in the Jets’ one MetLife Stadium practice. The fact the Jets didn’t put Perine on the injured reserve indicates he’s healthy now. That 1-2-3 punch is a solid one, assuming all parties stay healthy. Gase will ride the hot hand.
This doesn't sound like great news for Bell and his owners, but reports from earlier this season said Bell was lining up all over as a receiver. Given the team's struggles to keep WR healthy, Bell should always have a role in the passing game which could help makeup for possible losses in touches in the run game. Other reports this offseason said Gase loves Gore from their time in Miami, and plans to keep him involved in the offense.
