New England's Rob Gronkowski received a long-term deal north of $50 million last offseason, while Jimmy Graham played for a base salary of $540,000. Graham will enter the final year of his contract in 2013 and it would appear he's in a prime position to ask for a hefty contract extension.
The problem for the Saints is that they're probably not in a position to give Graham a huge deal right now. No one is saying Graham would ever position himself for a holdout, but you could argue he's one of the few players in the league who you couldn't blame considering he has far exceeded his rookie contract.
This is complete speculation at this point, but the first step of a contract dispute is for the player to be in a position to hold out, and Graham's talent and current salary puts him in such a position.
