Dolphins starting running back Lamar Miller is expected to sit behind Daniel Thomas on third downs. But Miller said today that he wants to be an every down back. “That’s my goal, nobody wants to come out of the game,” Miller said. “That’s something I’ve been working on, just trying to be a complete back so I can be in on third down.”
Philbin praised Thomas’ pass protection skills earlier this week which is crucial on third downs. But Miller said he’s “doing good” in pass protection and Philbin also said that Miller is improving there.
Per the Miami Herald, GM Jeff Ireland praised Lamar Miller but added “I don’t think it’s just going to be Lamar’s position. We’ve got a good running back in Daniel Thomas that’s certainly making some noise.”
He said he believes Miller and Thomas will each have a “breakout season” and “they’re a pretty good one/two punch.”
Thomas has apparently had a good camp so this could be more of a timeshare than we we're first expecting. Miller is still a nice looking pick in the 3rd or 4th round and is a better overall back than Thomas is.
