Lions coach Jim Schwartz isn't about to second-guess passing over Mark Sanchez in the draft and Daunte Culpepper in the quarterback competition.
In his news conference Monday, he stood by the decisions to draft Matthew Stafford first overall and to start him immediately.
"He's our quarterback," Schwartz said. "We're pleased with him. He's going to be a very good quarterback in this league, and we're going to win with him."
The Jets drafted Sanchez fifth overall. He's 2-0, with two touchdowns, one interception and a 91.3 passer rating, 10th best in the NFL through Sunday.
Stafford is 0-2, with one TD, five picks and a 40.5 passer rating. He was tied with the Panthers' Jake Delhomme for most interceptions and ranked last in passer rating through Sunday.
