General manager Dave Caldwell has been consistent in his praise for TE Marcedes Lewis ($5.75 million cap hit). The feeling inside the building is he was underused last year (10.4 yards per catch), too often kept in for pass protection instead of being sent downfield to capitalize on mismatches against less-athletic linebackers.
Marcedes Lewis has shown flashes throughout his career, but hasn't developed into a consistent threat. He posted 58-700-10 in 2010 and then failed to find the endzone in 2011, catching only 39 passes for 460 yards. The new regime apparently believes he's been underutilized in the passing game, so he could emerge as a solid TE2 if he gets more involved.
