McNabb contract talks reach impasse

Redskins fans have increasingly expressed concern because quarterback Donovan McNabb has not signed a contract extension.

In the past few weeks, many Insider readers have emailed me about the situation, suggesting the sides must have reached an impasse in negotiations. McNabb can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and silence from the team and McNabb has helped to stir speculation.

So we reached out to McNabb's agent, Fletcher N. Smith III, in an attempt to learn where things stand. Smith declined to reveal details of his conversations with the Redskins, but he's not worried about reaching an agreement.

"It is our desire to get a deal done in Washington ... that hasn't changed," Smith said Thursday afternoon in a phone interview. "Donovan made it clear, I think, that he likes it there and would like to end his career there."
