Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at his press conference today the team will place tight end Jermichael Finley on season-ending injured reserve.
Finley underwent surgery on his knee/tendon last week and it was believed there was some chance he could return late in the season. But those hopes ended with McCarthy’s announcement, which he said was in the best interests of Finley’s long-term health.
The Packers will fill Finley’s spot on the roster with safety Anthony Smith, who McCarthy confirmed was acquired in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Packers reportedly will give up a conditional seventh-round draft pick for Smith, who was in Packers training camp last summer before being released on the final cutdown.
