Roles on this Patriots club certainly haven't been set in stone with preseason games still yet to get underway, but Rex Burkhead might be a potential weapon for New England on special teams—with the second-year Patriot spending the last couple of practices catching punts alongside players like Cyrus Jones, Chris Hogan, Patrick Chung, and Julian Edelman.
While Edelman and Chung have had some experience as punt returners, the Patriots' go-to option last season, Danny Amendola, departed for the Dolphins this offseason, while Cyrus Jones is still coming back from an ACL injury that sidelined him for the entire 2017 campaign.
Burkhead said he's willing to do anything to help the team. The story said Burkhead is looking like he's in store for a lot of reps this season as a runner and pass-catcher in the offense.
