Pats Faulk banged up, RBs get just 52 yards

All Patriots running back Kevin Faulk could do as the final minutes ticked away was watch.

As the Patriots tried to erase a 14-point deficit in the final six minutes yesterday, Faulk stood on the sideline, his knee wrapped with a bag of ice. With 13:20 to go in the fourth quarter, Faulk sprinted along the sideline and was knocked out of bounds by Jets cornerback Drew Coleman. The running back usually is quick to bounce up after a tough hit, but he stayed down.

The Patriots’ medical staff sprinted across the field to check on Faulk. Even quarterback Tom Brady checked on Faulk. It wasn’t long before Faulk got up, clearly frustrated. He left the field under his own power but did not return to the game.

Faulk wasn’t available for comment after the 28-14 loss.

Faulk, who is in his 12th season with the Patriots, has proven to be durable, having played at least 15 games each of the last four seasons. He had five carries for 22 yards and two catches for 15 yards against the Jets. Overall, Patriots running backs accounted for 52 yards on 20 carries. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 10 carries for 19 yards and Fred Taylor had five carries for 11 yards.

The Patriots, who traded Laurence Maroney to Denver last week, also have Sammy Morris, who had one catch for 19 yards, but Green-Ellis is the only back in his 20s.

Fantasy Impact:

After trading Laurence Maroney to the Broncos, the Pats RBs are old... The article points out that BenJarvus Green-Ellis is the only back less than 30. While the Patriot's running attack strategy seems to be different every week, Green-Ellis may be worth a pickup if only for the fact he has the youngest legs.
