Antonio Pierce has been cleared. But the trouble is just beginning for Plaxico Burress.
Burress, the former Giants receiver who shot himself in the leg last Nov. 29, was indicted by a grand jury this afternoon on two felony counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. The same grand jury declined to charge Pierce, the Giants’ middle linebacker, who had been accused of removing Burress’ gun from the scene of the crime.
Burress, who reportedly turned down a plea bargain offer that would’ve sent him to prison for two years, is now facing a minimum of 3 1/2 years in prison and a maximum of 15 for each of the two posession counts if he’s convicted of the charges at a trial, which barring a plea bargain wouldn’t be held until early next year.
