The Raiders fined WR Antonio Brown over $215,000 Friday night for conduct detrimental to the team, which led to the team voiding his contract guarantees over $29.125 million.
Another day, another episode of what has become the NFL’s biggest soap opera. Brown also posted on Instagram effectively asking for his release from the Raiders, which is now much easier to do. The team can cut bait and not owe Brown a penny. In fact, Brown hasn’t even received a paycheck yet from the Raiders.
And in another twist, in a tweet from ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, he received an email from Brown saying the team “took away his guarantees” and “no way I play after they took that and made my contract week to week.” So we look to be right back to not expecting Brown to play Week 1 and at this point, it’s absolutely fair to believe he will never play a down for the Raiders. Hopefully you have plenty of viable options to replace Brown with for the time being. If there is one player on the Raiders to monitor because of this, it’s Tyrell Williams, who stands to see plenty of targets without Brown.
