Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan brushed aside any notion that he could bench Robert Griffin III.
He will indeed be behind center for Sunday night's game against the New York Giants at FedEX Field, even after another middling performance in a 27-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
"The growth of the quarterback, the maturation process, he needs those repetitions," Shanahan told reporters at the team's training facility on Tuesday when asked if backup Kick Cousins would be a better option. "That's why he's going through these repetitions: to get better.
"One of the reasons why we had the success where he separated himself from every other rookie in the history of the game was he was able to do things that other quarterbacks couldn't do. He had that threat. That threat is not quite there like it was a year ago."
Things are starting to get ugly in Washington. RGIII ripped the play calling and 49ers LB Ahmad Brooks said Griffin shouldn't even be playing because of his knee. We've had a lot of questions about benching RGIII in our Discuss Your Team forum as owners are getting fed up too. Coming off a very poor matchup against the 9ers, RGIII's got a couple more tough matchups vs. the Giants and Chiefs, but does play Atlanta and Dallas in Weeks 15 and 16 of the fantasy playoffs - two very favorable matchups.
