Dez Bryant was helped off the field at Saints practice today after suffering what the team fears may be a torn Achilles. He’s getting an MRI now.
Well, that was fast. Obviously, this is a big blow for Dez personally, the Saints as a team and to hopeful owners. With Cam Meredith added to IR just yesterday and no updates on if Ted Ginn Jr. will be able to return this year, the Saints suddenly find themselves thin at receiver. Ben Watson and TreQuan Smith figure to pick up much of the slack but don't be surprised if Alvin Kamara runs more routes, if that is even possible, with Mark Ingram picking up extra snaps. The biggest direct beneficiary is likely Smith, who could see additional work outside of the deep-threat role he's filled in recent weeks. Austin Carr, who has five career receptions will be the slot guy, but isn't likely to come into value. Look for the Saints, who also brought in Brandon Marshall and Kamar Aiken before signing Bryant, to add to the position in the next few days or early next week.
